Wenona Melanoma Fundraiser
Story
Welcome to the Wenona Melanoma Fundraiser 2016 fundraising page for girls and staff who have decided to push themselves and run for a great charity cause, in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival.
This comes after the unfortunate and very sad passing of Simon Kerr (uncle of Molly Keegan, Wenona Year 7), from an undetected melanoma. The funds will be going towards Simon's Fellowship, a part of the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, which is a not-for-profit organisation that aids melanoma patients and research into treatments and potential cures.
The aim of this fundraising effort is to create an campaign within Wenona, looking at raising awareness of the damage and potential fatalities that sun exposure and skin cancer can cause. Currently, as a sun lover myself, I know that there is not enough knowledge about the repercussions of sun damage. I think it is absolutely essential that girls right throughout the school need to be educated on the consequences of sun bathing and too much sun exposure. After all, two-thirds of us will be diagnosed with a skin cancer at least once in our lives.
Congratulations to the girls and staff who have put themselves forward to run for this great cause, it's great to see the commitment and passion in supporting both Simon's Fellowship and the increased education of Wenona girls regarding sun safety. It is amazing to know that Wenona as a community has contributed to a foundation which is close to many hearts within our school and also is relevant to all of our lives.
I can't wait to see everyone in their hat and sunscreen, running for such a great cause.
